Apocalypse Now

23 Jan

Arjun Rampal won a National Award. For scowling at Farhan Akhtar and pretending to play the guitar acting.

Apparently Katrina Kaif would like one too. And she’s got the handloom saree to prove it. But what about the frown lines? Dilemma!

Either the voting panel was headed by his mummy or they sourced it out to a Hunks R Us fan club. Thats the only explanation I can think of. This is worse than when Raveena Tandon won, you know?
      And yes, that’s Latika.

Mac Mohan [Sambha from Sholay] – her uncle – was apparently on the voting panel that year. Thats what they said 🙂

There are so many things wrong with that AD, let alone the National Awards voting.

lol… sorry to butt into your discussion but i think Shaji N Karun heads the national awards panel. Being a malayali(=dude from kerala) he screwed everyone in Kerala including hot fav Adoor Gopalakrishnan ! Amrita, great blog ! 🙂

Oh this is a joke. I love Arjun Rampal as much as the next girl, but no.

The Katrina thing is just sad. Especially the pic they’ve included with the article – it’s so, “I IS SRS ACTRESS. THIS B SRS ACTING HURR.”

… She’s so going to win, isn’t she?

lean, long hair thing goes a long way in real rock star circles. Ever notice that the leaner, the longer the hair and the more laconic, the higher the cool quotient…well, on the surface. Guess rampal should get credit making the look palatable.
They make a good looking couple, albeit brittle – she looks like if she makes one wrong move her face will suddenly age 20 years… yes .. tread very, very softly Nicloe and we can preserve that gossamer look for a few more months. Yes good looking couple, darn sight better than when she was with that scientology midget.
As for KK, I dunno she could not be better looking or less interesting to my eyes. No talent just kills the buzz, for me at least

    Nice work Amrita 🙂

I am offended why not upen Patel?

Oh, if true Hotness is the criteria, I vote for Rahul Khanna, his twitter updates are not bad at all.

    The national awards jury sucks!

OK I am going to go ahead and be the party pooper here. I absolutely loved Arjun Rampal in Rock On. His appearance on the stage at the end of the movie was enough to give him any award there was for playing an aging rocker.

And I missed the connection between the awards and the commercial. Sorry, I am having a slow day here.

Wtf indeed… but then the Ouija board did spell out “I see pigs fly” just a couple days ago, so…

Plis to note Priyanka Chopra won for her constipated portrayal of the ‘freaking face of Panache’ in ‘Fashion’.

The Natl. Awards truly lost credibility for me when Saif won for his useless role in ‘Hum Tum’, not surprising considering Mummy Tagore’s Censor Board Chief job at the time. Nepotism FTW!! What was really sad is that assuming he got it because:

    1) Mummy pulled strings
    2) Jury ass kissed Mummy for future no-hassle censor passing

it seemed to say that nobody really had any hope for dude at all. As in, waise bhi jeetne wala nahi kabhi, chalo aise hi de dete hain. Then, BOOM he does Omkara.

Which of course he did *Not* win for. Fucking jokers.

So anyway, I shall root for Uday Chopra for 2010 awards for his thespian turn in PI. Why not? :p

haha….Apocalypse Now indeed!!! Arjun Rampal, Priyanka Chopra???? WTF …

I wonder what kind of a hold Madhur Bhandarker has on the censor board jury. They keep rewarding his useless movies.

And that Kat Kaif news was just sad.

just as no one does jingoism better than sunny paaji (gadar’s tara singh can be no one in this world except apna sunny), arjun is one of those who excels in the ‘no expression’ acting department (of course in bollywood there is no lack of that talent) .. and his this lack of talent somehow was perfect for his role of the spaced out looking old rocker dude terribly frust of life .. probably the mallu leader of the jury thought that was acting .. he should have seen arjun’s other films .. and nicole ke saath indians in an ad!! howcome our news channels haven’t gone beserk yet!!

There was Arjun Rampal in the ad ?

You guys all have poor taste. Arjun Rampal’s serious turn in Rock On is the best performance of the decade gone by.

Worse still, Nicole Kidman should’ve totally boinked him instead of going for the Schweppes bottle. What a ditz!

ps: See? I said all that with a serious face. Can I have my National Award now?

pps: Hey, maybe they gave it to him for demonstrating that he could act better than he usually does, and will someday deliver a knockout performance worthy of the award. It’s apparently the rage these days. Ask those folks in Stockholm if you don’t believe me.

So this is apparently a trending topic and people are actually bothered about it? I guess Rampal was the hunk who broke the elephant’s back. I really thought everybody would just overlook it as usual. color me surprised.

Never Mind – I thought Rampal was fine in Rock On. But National Award worthy? Really?
Re: the ad, birds of a waxen feather, fly together!

    Ramsu – ouch

Sachita & Beth – YES PLZ!
