Twat For Twit

28 Sep

I’m a few days late with this story – mainly because I can’t believe it is a story. Something about Shashi Tharoor using metaphors while tweeting. Yup, it’s as stupid as it sounds.

Twitter: bringing down governments in Iran, playing havoc with the box office in America and making politicians sweat in India. 140 characters at a time.

Why are you not on Twitter, Amrita?! Or are you?

Oh there was some furore here as well over David Cameron (MP and Conservative Party leader)saying “Too many tweets make a twat” while talking about his Twitter usage, live on radio. It had Twitter users going up in smoke over his supposed insult to twitter users and some other people getting angry over how anyone could swear on live radio. Twat is hardly the most offensive word out there really and considering Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand pulled a far worse and more offensive stunt earlier, it seems utterly stupid that anybody could be bothered by something like this.

Twitter is certainly news-fodder these days. Except all the wrong things seems to make it to being published.

I just don’t *get* Twitter. I don’t understand why there are people following me there when I never post anything, and I don’t understand why I should be bothered going there—I’m bored when I do. I guess maybe I’m too old.

@ Memsaab: I get that. I deleted my account for those very reasons 😀

Same. Joined it ages ago, and it bored me to tears. *yawn*

3D – I’m beginning to like David Cameron. This confuses me because I’m not old or rich enough to turn conservative. Hmm.

Adithya – ha ha HA! Me expressing myself in 140 characters? That will be the day.

Memsaab – You’re not too old, your problem is that you haven’t tried to start a revolution yet! Get with the times!

“you haven’t tried to start a revolution yet! Get with the times!” — enna, “Kaadalan” hangover innum pogalaiyaa? 😀

Tell me this doesn’t remind you of that line of where Prabhudeva boards that (Mandaveli-bound?) ladeej-only PTC bus 29 and goes Oorvasi Oorvasi, gyrating after gorging on food from someone else’s tiffin box (one needs the energy, no?): “Puratchigal yedhum seiyyamal, pennukku nanmai vilaiyaadhu” (translated for memsaab: “no revolution, no recompense for woman”!) 😛

Oh I dunno, Memsaab mayen’t have to make that great an effort at all! She’ll just need to take a leaf outta Noel Gallagher’s book and “… start a revolution from my bed” 😀

Now THAT is something I could be on board with!
