New Age Salman

04 Aug

If Wanted and now Dabangg is the direction Salman Khan plans to take with his career, he’s one smart cookie. Everyone else in Bollywood has hitched themselves so wholeheartedly to competing with international talent, all those who like to watch their Bollywood with generous splashes of 80s-style machismo have been left to the tender mercies of Z-listers and various regional cinemas.

Enter St. Salman of the Regressives. Bigger, badder and more funner. An A-lister who remembers the faithful. A temperamental, more successful Akshay Kumar with a better team.

And in case you were wondering about that chick who looks like the Indian version of his usual furriner Amazonians, that’s Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of the one and only Shatrughan.

Salman is one of the few actors today who can claim to be “larger than life” in ye olde tyme style :) and I applaud him for that, if nothing else!

There are people around me who are like …”WTF”. Why is he giggling away staring at the monitor. Your photo captions are awesome !! Does he really have to look so backed up all the time ? Arrey relax Bhai. Take a Pan Pasand, itself !!

I think Dabangg is Saamy. And it would be good if it remains faithful just by replacing Tirunalveli district with some UP/Bihar town.

Ah … have watched Saamy … Sallu Bhai looks a tad older for that role … me thinks .. :)

He is very, very smart. ‘Wanted’ (and ‘Partner’) were so much fun. Big masala movies. That’s what the industry needs now. Your photo captions are hilarious. “All There?” :)

Sonakshi strangely resembles Reena Roy.. just like Rinki Khanna resembles Tina Munim :)

That’s so true, I’ve always wondered at Sonakshi’s resemblance to Reena Roy. But didn’t notice Rinki Khanna’s resemblance to Tina Munim, until now. The ways of love. :)

    HAHAA… robin hood pandey indeed!
p.s.: have you got down to listening to/watching ‘munni badnaam hui’? has killer lyrics along the lines of “main zandu balm huyi, darling teri liye…”

Oh she is shotgun’s child? Totally explains Sallu’s mustache!

Okay, here’s an actor who has made a career out of displaying his bulging biceps, and this is the bulging muscle you notice? Sheesh! :-D

  11. New 'Aged' Salman?

Omg, yet another ballsy B movie from la ‘S’ man (turned saint)? Bring it on (muchas anticipatory drool — that’s a killer trailer)!!

LEB: You may have a point about Sallu being a tad old for Saamy role (but then so he was for Pokkiri role) but who cares, right? (Also, old is gold etc.) I for one was able to successfully suspend Pokkiri memories during Wanted viewing, so no perception corruption whatsoyever! Plan to similarly send off Saamy memories to float on the surface while I dive into Dabangg. Follow my same strategy, vokay?

Beth – RIGHT? How does that even happen? :D

    Memsaab – so true!

LEB – I was going to make endless constipation jokes but then decided to go for other low hanging fruit instead. Erm.

Adithya – I haven’t seen it so I guess I won’t watch it now until I’ve seen this movie.

Banno – and he’s the only one doing it too!

    TAF – HAHAHAHAH! Hmmmmmm……..

    Veena – I am not a fan :(

Rayshma -I just listened to the soundtrack today and it’s mostly meh but there are a couple of songs in there that make me sit up and take notice.

Complicateur – it does? I dont get it but I’m laughing anyway.

Ramsu – ok, now I feel dirty :D

NAS – it’s one of the better trailers I’ve seen for a Hindi movie this year, I think. And unusually clever for a Salman movie.

      Loud claps @ “low-hanging fruit”!!

And you honestly didn’t get Compli’s ‘Elektra’lysis subtext (some guys shave or use scissors to prune mustache but not our masochistic, er, machoistic (Sal)man!)? :-P

Oh btw, did you catch the Death Train – Dabangg connection? I just realized: This post came hot on the heels of BV’s “Maine Pyaar Kiya” comment at DT, and his headgear in the first pic up here confirms my “Baydr Al Fay” theory… hmmmm. Are we looking at a REAL player in this picture?? :-D
